To raise awareness about the impact of Vaginismus, Sh! is gathering real-life stories to publish on the vaginismusawareness.com blog. The story below has been shared with us and the author has given us permission to share it with you.
I have never felt more attracted to someone in my life than I am to my partner now. Everything feels perfect with him - the laughs, the chats, the kissing, the foreplay - except for the sex. He was shocked at first when his "thing" wouldn't go in, but he has been so understanding when I have explained the issues I've been having. As time has gone on, all we want to do is have sex. It just feels like a natural progression of a relationship, and something that has been sooo long awaited!
The most frustrating thing is that we can't as the muscles in my pelvic floor and vagina itself are so tight. It feels like there is no space for anything to go in, but I know that there would be if I just learnt to relax my pelvic floor. I know that this pain is from my experience with my ex when "it" didn't really go in and it was really really painful when it went in the slightest bit.
I am now seeing a physiotherapist to hopefully help me to open up my vagina, and I have been referred to a gynaecologist too.
I now have more hope that I will get better, but living with Vaginismus is a constant battle and something that affects your mental wellbeing more than you could ever think possible.
